I have a similar problem with Evolution 3.8; often autocomplete shows no
results (because there are no addresses!) The remedy has been switching
to Contacts (emtpy), quitting evo, restarting, and ta-da.

These are contacts in my Google account.

And while that opens up all kinds of things that could be wrong that
aren't necessarily Evolution's fault, I switched to having my contacts
there a few months ago and keep getting scared shitless my contacts have
been wiped.
