slideshow very slow

Hello,

I just upgraded from 0.3.5 to 0.4.0.

Testing the slideshow I've found that it is terribly slow now. Actually
there's only 2 frames per fade now. Was something changed in the code?

I use a screen resolution of 1400x1050, but even apps like compiz mostly runs
smooth (but I had it turned off to test f-spot).

Are there any compiler options to work around that or another solution?
