The GNOME Foundation was asked to send someone to the FOSS Nigeria event
in Kano, Nigeria (April 23-25). We identified two volunteers who
were planning to go, but the board has recently been informed that
neither person is able to go any longer.
Since it is an important GNOME goal to further develop ties with the
developing world, this is unfortunate.
The board suspects it is likely not possible to make further
arrangements for someone to represent GNOME at this event due to the
short timeframe and the fact that this does not leave much time to
coordinate a visa.
However, if anybody has any ideas about how to address this problem
then let us know. Perhaps there is a volunteer out there who lives
in a country where a visa would not be required for this travel. Or
if someone is interested to go and wants to try to coordinate a visa
quickly, then let us know. The GNOME Foundation would be agreeable
to covering the travel costs for a qualified volunteer who would be
able to make arrangements to go.
