sawfish install

Compiling and installing the applications in ~/garnome/gnome I found
that "make install" was failing with librep, rep-gtk, and sawfish.
They were wanting to be installed in /usr/local rather than in the
garnome tree in ~/garnome where everything else went.
I simply did "sudo make install" and everything seemed to go well.
Is this the right thing to do? Am I missing something? Are there
other applications that want to be installed in the regular directory
structure rather than in garnome's?
Thanks and thanks for garnome--it is great.
