Xft, fontconfig and related

Hi,

I'm trying to reorganize some issues with the Gnome2 related packages in
Rock Linux (www.rocklinux.org). As I'm not really uptodate with this stuff,
I would like to know, what is the preferred version of Xft - Xft or Xft1
from fontconfig or the one delivered with XFree 4.2.x? Which one ist the
most uptodate and most stable?

As Garnome seems to handle it right, I hope for some hints here on the list.
