UTF8 problem with accent

Hello,
Running some G2 aplication cause problems with UTF8.
All the accent word are cut when there's accentuate letter and the rest 
of the line too...
This exemple is from Balsa 2 :

** (balsa:5891): WARNING **: Invalid UTF8 string passed to 
pango_layout_set_text
()

But I have the same sometime with nautilus.
my $LANG is set to fr_FR.

Is this a problem with garnome or with balsa ?
How can I test this better ?
