And will break anything that tries linking against older C++ libraries. The 
GCC 3 conversion is being handled very badly, I'm sad to say. Not having an 
"old mangling" option makes it impossible for a lot of folks to upgrade, as 
not all vendors have released GCC 3 happy libraries.
