garnome to /usr and mozilla prob

Hi
I just build garnome 0.27.1 plus all the patches i could find
(ftp://cipherfunk.org/pub/patches/garnome/0.27.1/)
I got 2 problems.
Firt i tried to build to to ~/garnome which ended up fine but i wanted to be
able to run gnome as every user.
So i build it to /opt/garnome the problem here was that installed packages
(namely openoffice didn't find the source gnome dir and ended up not
installing itself to the start menu ( how do i add it manually ?!)
So i tried to build it to /usr - which ended up with a mess... all fonts are
printed as little squares ( i can still choose between the fonts.. but all
look like squares)

The problem i'm encountering with all build methods is mozilla showing me a
font that looks like for blind people.
i cannot read that either ( allthough the fonts are available here too ) it
allways looks like a blind font.

I hope someone can help me out here.. since i don't really know what the
problem is.
