Problems with png icons in 2.6.2.1

Hi,

I've compiled and installed version 2.6.2.1. Congratulations, it worked
smoothly, very good!

Now I'm using it and I found a problem. I can not use the png icons,
although they exist in $GARNOME:/share/pixmaps I can not see them when I
try to change an application's icon and I don't have a gnome application
associated with png. I know how to associate an application but
shouldn't gnome have a viewer for png ? 

How can I solve this ?
