will not accept super user password

I can't get past the request for the su password. I suppose this is
something weird to do with this Debian sudo su system? I've even gone
into the directory gnome-system-monitor-2.9.91 and compiled and
installed it as su but garnome will still not go past this step. Any
suggestions?
