Hey!  I've got menus!  Thanks!  And the icons appear to be a theme
related issue.  So I now have a working gnome 2.9 installation.

It sure would be nice if this were docmented somewhere - that one
variable sure makes a world of difference..  Or is it and I just
missed it ?
