I tried with the earlier libexif-0.6.11 compiled from source, and finally
with the RedHat libexif-0.5.12 and libexif-devel-0.5.12 rpms, and still
the same problems.

If anyone can offer tips on how to debug why Nautilus and gnome-panel are
exiting repeatedly, that would be most helpful.  I've been reading through
mailing list archives and searching with google, but no luck.  I've been
using Garnome since probably 2.4 and I've never had this problem.
