You likely got the wrong list. gnome-love [1] is more appropriate in
this case. Oh, and please subscribe to mailing lists, before posting.
Since you are already here: GARNOME [2] is a build utility to build the
entire Desktop (stable as well as latest unstable releases) from
tarballs, rather than CVS. If you don't want to hack on the *entire*
Desktop but a few apps, using GARNOME for your system and building those
apps from CVS only might be a good idea. Keeps you sane and doesn't
break the Desktop every now and then... ;)
If you really want to build the entire Desktop from CVS (and falling
victim to the depravities of CVS ;) you should have a look at jhbuild.
In either case, welcome and have a lot of fun.
