authorization file

I've successfully built and installed latest gdm version (2.4.0). I've
created "gdm" user and group as showed in README.install file. But, when I
log in, X crashes and I get this error message:

"Gdm could not write to your authorization file. This could mean that you
are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be opened for
writing"

Any advice?
