That sounds like a decent idea: Hover the mouse over a layer and it will pop up a tooltip identifying the
two things you can't tell from a glance - the layer's blending mode and opacity.
or one step closer to the action -- what about providing such adjustments directly on canvas?
How would you identify a layer on the canvas? The topmost
non-transparent one (like the Move tool uses)?
