This is the first time I've used Glade but when I do, I create a
window
object, then I try to put a button on it or a label or ANY control and
the control fills the entire window -- I can't resize it to anything
smaller. Is there something I'm not getting here?
Yes :) In gtk/GNOME, you need to put your controls into containers,
like an Hbox, Vbox or Table, which then control their size.
See http://www.writelinux.com/glade/ or http://www.kplug.org/
glade_tutorial/glade2_tutorial/gtemp_2.html for some examples and
tutorials. It all takes a bit of getting used to, but makes for
windows that scale and resize well.

Calum.
