this is the real and only problem. Anyone want't to find out how to get 
gettext support with gnome-1.4. (Take another project and study it's 
configure.in & po/Makefile.in.in)

Ignore that. autogen takes care of that.

turning off gettext support (C options) will solve the problem, I plan a 
more decent solution for gnome2 and gtk2. This was the (seemingly) no 
longer working gnome 1.0/1.2 solution.
