I think going into this direction would be very helpful for
interoperability between kttsd and gnome-speech.

For kttsd, we currently use DCOP, but if D-BUS turns out to be stable
enough, we might well switch to D-BUS with KDE 4.0, or provide a
lightweight DCOP<->D-BUS bridge even earlier.
If you decide to use an implementation independent protocol for
gnome-speech, then I am definately interested poting kttsd to a very
similar DCOP-based API now to make future briging as easy as possible.
Another idea would be to share the speech drivers - to they currently rely
on GTK+?
