Jacob:
I'm trying to make GDM talk. I've gone back into the archives and have
added the gtkmodules to gdm.conf. I then edited the accesskey config
file and put my entry for gnopernicus in there. NOw, when I press the
key (ctrl+n) gnopernicus starts, but I don't get any speech. I can tell
its running by logging into a text console and looking at the processes,
but it just doesn't say anything. Anyone gotten this to work
successfully? What am I missing here?
gdm and gnopernicus do not yet play well together. The problem you
describe with text-to-speech not working is a known problem. The
issues are documented in the following bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122459
I haven't yet had time to look into what is causing the problem. It
could be something as simple as the gdm user not having proper
permissions to /dev/audio.
