You shouldn't need go_gnome per se, but if you are running any "pure
gtk+" applications you may need to set GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge.

There is no harm in doing so to my knowledge - at one time there was a
conflict with Mozilla if you did but I believe that has been fixed.
