Hi, your problem with Viavoice is not unusual. It's well known that Viavoice
has dificulty with some soundcards and some drivers.
I've seen this myself with my own computers. One computer with a SB Live
works perfectly fine while my laptop with a SBPro is vary choppy and crashes
with Viavoice.
If you are going to use alsa make sure you have a later release of alsa. I
noticed using Alsa 9.0rc6 or later seamed to fix some problems. I believe
the latest stable release of alsa is 0.9.3 stable now and and perhaps
getting the latest drivers may fix the problem, and perhaps not.
It's really a hit or miss thing with Viavoice with some soundcards.
