Re: Stopping X-Server



Hi, John.
In my personal experience I think this hang is caused by exiting X
improperly by alt+control+backspace to kill X rather than shutting down X
via the logout dialog.
I could be wrong about this, but I noticed if I alt+control+backspaced out
of X several times eventually startx would hang, and I had to reboot. After
using logout from the main menu X no longer hangs for me.
Perhaps others on the list have a better idea why this happens.  However, if
you restart the problem will goaway, and then you can do more testing with
X.
