Toby, I don't understand what you are trying to do. You can't just start
up X and then expect to log in on another console to run X applications.
X applications have to run from the X session itself as far as I know.
Now, if Open-Office has command line flags to do an automatic install, it
may be possible to run it without X running, but it sure doesn't sound
like it can do that. You would start up X and then try to run the
installer from Gnome. If somebody knows otherwise, please correct me.
This is how I understand it, though.
