Hi, if you used 1024 by 768 as your horizontal and virtical sink rates that
would be a large reason for your xserver failing.
Don't confuse 1064 by 768 with the monitor sink rates. Every monitor is
different, and it is best to allow Red Hat to attempt to probe  these values
during the install of RH. Since that doesn't apply here see if you can
locate some documentation on what is valad horizontal and virtical sink
rates for your monitor.
On one of my monitors for an example the sink rates are:
34 38
50 90

Then, I set the color and depth to 16 byt color 800 by 600.
