GNOME 2.4's menu structure is a bit different than gnome-2.2's used to be. To get to logout, hit alt+f1, arrow right to the actions menu, and hit up arrow once.
That's where logout is, redhat and mandrake both kept the old gnome 2.2-style menu structures rather than switching to the gnome-2.4 panel menu bar.
