Will,
I use garnome, and while you'll experience a few dependancy issues
during your first try the garnome mailing list is a great starting
point. All bugs are thin on garnome, so the answer is usually in the
mailing list archives, but if you can't find it there then just ask and
someone will help out.
I'm using garnome-0.27.1 on RH9 so I know it works.

PS. What specific problem were you having with the build? One of the
nice things about garnome is that when things break, you can address the
issue and them just run make install again. It picks up where is
stopped and off you go.
