Hi, Scott.
I have festival and flite on my Mandrake 9.2 system and there is no problems
between them.
So that isn't likely to be the problem. One thing I would do is run
test-speech to see that your speech server finds the festival driver.
Another thing is make sure that speech is checked in gnopernicus.
