Hi Gena,
Well the subject states the question. I'd like to use dectalk software
on my debian sid system. Do I need to compile gnome-speech separately
and over the top of libgnome-speech?
Yes. The individual drivers for the various TTS engines aren't built unless
the TTS engine is on the system at build time. Once DECTalk is installed
properly on your system (verify you get speech with the `say` application in
the DECTalk directory), you need to completely re-build gnome-speech to
compile & install the DECTalk gnome-speech driver.
