OT: Application launchers not working

Hi all
This is a bit off topic, so please reply privately if you wish.
I just built GNOME from CVS yesterday using jhbuild. All is working except
for one thing: application launchers (those with the filenames ending in
.Desktop and .Drive) do not execute. When I hit enter on them, gnome says
"no application associated." It then asks me whether I want to associate
an application with this, so I say yes. However, I have no idea what
application I'm supposed to choose to get these launchers to launch.
Aren't they supposed to execute themselves? I've tried searching the web
and various archives, but either I'm not looking in the right place or I'm
not entering the right search words, since I can't find anything. This is
a rather annoying issue.
