Probably very wise in general. Although the GNOME community at least is
mostly aligned behind the goal that the majority of users should never
have to touch the console, so identifying an area where that's not
currently possible probably won't result in the same amount of scorn
being poured as it might in some other *nix circles :)
Admittedly it's usually more productive to file a bug via the
appropriate channels than to "pester the maintainer" directly, though.
