I believe you need to upgrade your version of the magnifier.  A bug 
which resulted in the loss of the crosswire cursor in some 
configurations was fixed in gnome-mag version 0.11.10 (released in 
November) - possibly the fix didn't get integrated until 0.11.11 
(released December), my records are a bit contradictory on that point.

gnome-mag version 0.11.13 and later are even better, as we got 
fullscreen magnification working properly (finally!) with XOrg 6.8.X in 
that release.
