ubuntu packaged software

When you download a package with apt-get ie Gnucash, how do you find out
where the file or files are placed?
I know when I was in Dapper I tried to install Gnucash which I think I
managed to download only searching for it didn't find it.
Is it the case of finding the directory which contains .deb files?
