The only problem I had once I got Orca up and running on Debian was its
interaction with Gaim.  But I understand from a previous post on I think
the Orca list that this is a known issue in Ubuntu Feisty as well.  Of
course there is no Orca package in Debian yet because it's still using
Gnome 2.14.  This problem will obviously be corrected once Debian
Unstable updates to Gnome 2.16, which will hopefully be soon.  The
source package however installs fine with the current Debian packages
with the exception of python-pyorbit, which seems to be out of date.

I personally recommend Ubuntu over Debian, but that's just because of
its ease of use out of the box and because I just like it better.  But
Debian from an accessibility standpoint is easy enough to get talking if
you don't mind a little source installation for now.  I never filed any
bugs regarding Debian accessibility because the problems I did have were
in packages that aren't currently available in Debian, weren't really
bad enough to worry about and/or were fixed in the source packages
quickly.  The only serious problem I had was the invisible buddy list in
Gaim, which for some reason isn't a problem in Ubuntu Edgy and seemed to
be pretty hard to trace.  I don't think there is any reason to complain
about the "inaccessibility" of Debian at this point, since most if not
all the accessibility problems will be resolved when Debian packages
Gnome 2.16.
