Hi Aurelian,
I don't know how will be the future of gnome-mag due the introduction
of composited desktop. I will start to work in a way to gnome-mag and
window composite managers to interact. If I get success on this, I
will change the path of how the image is magnified today, to take
advantage of hardware acceleration. If my work fail I will probably
start to contribute with the magnifier inside metacity or compiz, and
in this case the problem that you cited is not relevant.
