Handibox

Dear community,

As a representation of the Handibox team, I'm writing to introduce
Handibox, an application with a focus on people with physical motor
problems.

Handibox has been developed at the University of Talca in the career of
Civil Engineering in Bioinformatics by students and teachers and was
inspired by Mousetrap, a discontinued GNOME software to control the
mouse with your head. Also, Handibox uses some characteristics from
applications already created by GNOME for accessibility to provide the
user with a more comfortable experience in using the desktop.

To use Handibox you only need a webcam (built-in or external). The
application captures and recognizes the movements of the head to
control the mouse. Internally, it uses the "click assist" (mouse tweak)
function to simulate clicking and other GNOME characteristics (apps)
like zoom, keyboard on screen, cheese.

To make a good software with the best quality, it chose to use the
iterative methodology that counts with the constant feedback of every
user in all of their levels. Each level and iteration allow generating
testing prototypes with the users and as a result, getting a final
product developed and adjusted.

The function of the Handibox software was directly validated with the
students, teachers, kinesiologist, and parents of the "Especial Enseña"
school in Talca Chile, that has been serving children with motor and
mental disabilities for some years.

This previous experience allows us to say that Handibox can also be
used as physiotherapy because it induces the user to move their body to
achieve the goals of the therapy.

We are looking for technical and non technical help and new ideas to
improve Handibox.
