Hi there,
I know many of you are tired of GNOME beeing slow and buggy, I know I
was.
Luckily there is a quick fix, and that is replacing Enlightenment with a
fast and stable windowmanager.
IceWM is such a wm and it is Gnome-compliant.
To make replacing E with Ice and even more pleasureable experience I
have made a RPM package of Dave Mortensens,
Icepref utility available. You can download it from Dave's homepage
found at: http://members.xoom.com/SaintChoj/icepref.html
I have also made some RPMS of the latest release of pyGtk and pyGnome
which Dave has also been kind enough to post.
To get Icepref to pop-up in your control-panel menu you need to edit the
IceWM.desktop file found at:
/usr/share/gnome/wm-properties , look at the Enlightenment file to see
the syntax.
I expect the need to do this manual editing is only temporary since I
have mailed Jonathan Blandford an updated IceWM.desktop file,
which I hope he will inlcude in the next release of Control-Center.
At the moment you should also get the IceWM RPMS from the IceWm homepage
(http://www.kiss.uni-lj.si/~k4fr0235/icewm/),
but I expect to be able to announce the availability of my Gnome
enhanced IceWM-RPMS soon.
Sincerely,
Christian Schaller
