libgda/libgnomedb 0.8.99 released!!
libgda is a data access layer based on CORBA/Bonobo which allows access
to different database systems, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc, as well
as to any kind of data source you can imagine (LDAP, flat files, etc).
libgnomedb is a widget library containing lots of nice data-bound
widgets, which is based on libgda.
libgda-2 and libgnomedb-2 (GNOME 2 versions) are the result of a big
refactoring process in the gnome-db project for GNOME 2. Taking
advantage of the new architecture, big changes have been made (mainly
internally, although there a lot of new API thingies).
This release is for GNOME 2 and is a DEVELOPMENT RELEASE, only INTENDED
for DEVELOPERS wanting to use libgda/libgnomedb in their GNOME 2
applications. This is because as part of the refactoring process (which
has happened for the basic parts, but not for the rest of features),
we'd like to get input from developers wanting to use them in their
applications.
This release is not intended to be functional, nor is the API frozen in
neither of both libraries, and furthermore, it will crash a lot,
although the only harm it will do to your databases is that it will
(maybe) keep open database connections around. But, in any case, please
DON'T USE IT with your production databases, just use it for testing
(you've been warned :-). The intention of this release is to just make
those both libraries available to the people developing for GNOME 2.
Right now, support is available, in different states of development, for
PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Sybase and SQLite databases.

And please, if you want to access a database, whichever it is, from your
GNOME application, use libgda/libgnomedb, you'll thank us :-)
