I'm sorry, but I stil can't see what you mean. The only files I have are
those downloaded from:

ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/stable/releases/gnome-1.4/

I compiled everything (including esd) from source (rather than DEB
packages), from the packages at:

ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/stable/releases/gnome-1.4/

Therefore the development stuff should be installed as well.
