I can confirm that; linking against libpthread works fine, libgthread and
libglib hangs.

The system is a LinuxPPC 2000, with the following RPM's involved:

glib-1.2.8-3 (libgthread-1.2.so.0.0.8, libglib-1.2.so.0.0.8)
glibc-2.1.3-15f (libc-2.1.3.so, libpthread-0.8.so)
