Redhat 6.2 x86 plus a lot of upgrades and gcc 2.95.2. I've compiled most
of gnome myself since before 1.0 on this same machine. I compiled and
installed gnome core 1.4.0.1 before and got no problem.

How can it not be any conflicts when the same symbols are in both
desk-guide and gdk? I have not done any debuging of the problem except
that I got a conflict when I built and I noticed that some functions were
copied in text-wise from the gdk source-code. Are you saying this was the
case before also (like in 1.4.0.1 that worked for me)?
