applet_widget_register_callback() popup menu over button

the function applet_widget_register_callback adds an
entry to the context menu of an applet (ie the menu
that appears when the right mouse button is clicked.)
However, when the applet contains a button, a right
mouse click on the button does not pop up the 
context menu. How does one make it so, that the
context menu also pops up when right clicking on 
a button?
