the best way to play simple midi in a gnome app

hi,

what's the best way to play midi in gnome app?
The midi stuff is very simple a single chord or scale.
And all that needs doing is play stop and loop.

Is there a bonobo component that can do this?
Do I have to use alsa myself?
Is there something in between?
