Are there any plans for a multimedia infrastructure?
It would be nice if Gnome had a "multimedia player" backend, possibly in
the form of a library, with an API that could be used by arbitrary Gnome
applications.
For example, once Gnome has this backend, Nautilus or any other
application, including standard Gnome components (file browser, etc.)
could call the library whenever there's a need to play a multimedia
file.
If anyone thinks this is a good idea, such a library already exists:
http://xinehq.de/
xine is incorrectly called "a multimedia player". It is, in fact, a
multimedia library, with several player interfaces built on top of it.
xine-ui, the "official" xine player, is just one of these interfaces.
What do you guys think?
