canvas image rotation

In gcompris, I'd like to rotate images. I am using the gnome canvas and
gdk-pixbuf and so tried this function call found in
/usr/include/gnome-1.0/libgnomeui/gnome-canvas.h
void gnome_canvas_item_rotate (GnomeCanvasItem *item, double x, double
y, double angle);

Unfortunatly, it seems to be nonexistant since I have a link error.

What is the process to rotate an image or better a canvas item?
