Broken xset DPMS w/ Wayland

Does anybody know why xset no longer can tell that my computer has DPMS support after I upgraded to GNOME w/ Wayland? I'd like to be able to turn off my screen using a keyboard shortcut, but that no longer seems possible. There's also a StackExchange post with the same question:

Thanks,
Paulie
