I do agree that eliminating trailing spaces is a good idea to implement, but as of right now, it's a little too obtrusive.
What if there were an option (defaulted to on), "eliminate trailing spaces"?

I've just updated to gedit 2.29.9, and as Julian, I would like to have
an option to change this behaviour back.
