I was not trying to help anyone out except myself.
I simply wanted to print out the FAQ for my own use.
It isn't a question of whether the TeX file is readable or not.
A file called gnome-faq.tex should be processable
either by "tex gnome-faq.tex" or "latex gnome-faq.tex"
and neither worked with this file.
