Actually, I think it was Michael Meeks, in revision 1.3 of
Makefile.am, amid a flurry of other changes.  (c;

No, it didn't find the source files at all, even with srcdir ==
builddir.  Didn't go far enough towards the root dir.  Should have
been '../..' rather than '..'.
