Hi all,

We have a newly updated schedule, which will be a relief to many - but
certainly not an excuse to close your bugzilla windows and go cycling!

It's simply a result of having ~250 'high' or greater priority bugs [1],
which is far too high for a serious release candidate. Thus, we've added
another three week release period, and called the current release target
"Beta 4":


                         GNOME 2.0 Release Schedule
                         --------------------------

   October 24 Package List FREEZE - package list for Gnome 2.0 finalized
   October 31 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2. Platform Alpha 2
   November 2 RELEASE - Gnome 2.0 Platform Alpha 2
   November 2 API FREEZE - any further API changes must be individually
     approved
   November 23 Feature FREEZE - no feature additions for core packages
     w/o approval of release team

Revised Schedule - 2001-12-10

   December 10 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2.0 API Frozen Platform Beta
   December 14 RELEASE - Gnome 2.0 API Frozen Platform Beta
   January 14 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Alpha
   January 16 RELEASE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Alpha

Revised Schedule - 2002-01-25

   January 28 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Alpha 2
   January 30 RELEASE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Alpha 2
   February 11 UI FREEZE - no more UI changes w/o approval of release
     team (excludes 1.4 feature porting)
   February 11 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Beta 1
   February 13 Porting FREEZE - porting complete as per GNOME 2.0 Porting
     Guide
   February 13 RELEASE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Beta 1
   February 18 String FREEZE - no more localizable string changes w/o
     approval of release team

   March 4 PACKAGES DUE - Gnome 2.0 Desktop Beta 2
