I think, whatever my feelings on this, that this particular metaphor has
won the day, and for usability, interoperability and translation
reasons, "folder" is probably the preferred term. My personal hope is
that GNOME can be more creative in the way that we manipulate and look
inside folders than other OS have been.

Surely you're not saying that "Real World" != UNIX? :-)
